On Wednesday while addressing Independence Day celebration function at Junagadh Gujarat’s Chief Minister Narendra Modi announced ban of Guthka in state.
Modi said “I have to save the youths of Gujarat, from the dreaded evil of cancer and that’s why a decision to impose a complete ban on gutka has been taken,”
Ban on Gutkha will be implemented from September 11.

Maharashtra cabinet has approved the ban on sale and consumption of gutkha and paan masala in the state for one year. At the end of the year, the ban will be extended for another 12 months. The ban will come into effect once the notification is issued, which could be anytime soon. The Foodand Drugs Administration (FDA) department had presented the proposal to this effect at Wednesday’s meeting. On June 5, HT had reported that the cabinet had given in-principle approval to the ban.
