India Against Corruption cartoonist Aseem Trivedi arrested on sedition charges


On Monday police arrested Aseem Trivedi, a freelance artist, political cartoonist and activist of India Against Corruption on the charges of sedition over a series of cartoons which highlighted government’s corruption such as caricaturing parliament, and depicting the national emblem with wolves dripping blood from their mouths.
He was charged with sedition under Section 124 A of the Indian Penal Code, which is a non-bailable offence.

He was also charged under the IT Act and the 1971 National Emblem Act.

Power supply stolen for protest against corruption by MJP, Ahmedabad


A Dharna was organized by Maha Gujarat Janta Paksh in favor of Lokayukta against State Government. But in this protest we found out that the electric current supply was not taken legally. On the contrary is was stolen from a nearby electrical distribution board for the sound system of two hour program.
When asked Gordhan Jadafiya, president of MJP, he said that he is unaware about this connection and is ready to pay the penalty if needed. In the protest against corruption the implementation of Lokayukta is needed in the party as well.

MNS demands probe in irregularities in purchase of stationary for civic students


Corporators of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) have urged the commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to probe the alleged irregularities in the purchase of stationery and other school items meant for civic school students.There is a huge difference between the rates at which these items are purchased in the market and those charged by the contractors appointed by the BMC.

MNS has urged probe in ongoing corruption by BMC contractors.

ACB strict towards corrupt officers, Ahmedabad


ACB is taking strict actions against the corrupt officers who takes bribe. Interestingly, compared to last year the number of corrupt officers caught by ACB has increased. In 2009, 223 officers were caught taking bribe, in 2010, 218 officers were caught taking bribe. Compared to this in 2012 there are 70 cases filed till April itself and the total number of accused are 90.
Talking about April month itself than there are 15 cases lodged till now in which 5 cases of police department are filed and 8 accused are caught.
The cases of taking bribe are increased in Ahmedabad and Surat. Two major bribe cases of 2012 are one of DVSP of Surat, taking bribe of Rs. 1.5 lakh and the second was of an ONGC officer who was taking bribe of Rs. 4 lakh.
