Heavy rains in Andhra Pradesh after Cyclone Nilam


After Nilam cyclone heavy rains continue to lash coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh. The death poll has risen to 32 till now.
Vishakapatnam, Prakasam, East Godavari and Viziana-garam have received close to 25 cm of rainfall since Saturday. People from low lying areas have been evacuated to relief camps. More rainfall is expected in next 24 hours according to MET Department.

The rainfall on Sunday was such that Narasapur in West Godavari district received a record 31 cms of rainfall in the last 24 hours, followed by 27 cms in Amalapuram, 25 cms in Rajahmundry (both in East Godavari district), 25 cms in Yelamanchili (Visakhapatnam dist), 23 cms in Koderu (West Godavari district).

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy directed chief secretary Minnie Mathew to put all concerned departments on high alert and closely monitor the flood and heavy rains situation.

Cyclone Nilam hits Tamil Nadu


On Wednesday as forecasted by weather department Cyclone hit Southern state of India. Cyclone Nilam on Wednesday swept across north Tamil Nadu coast near Mahabalipuram, about 55 km from Chennai, leaving two persons dead, including a crew member of an oil tanker that ran aground off the city.

25 killed and 27 injured as Tamil Nadu Express coach catches fire in Nellore


Twenty five were on Monday charred to death and 27 others injured when a fire broke out in a coach of New Delhi-Chennai Tamil Nadu Express near here with railway minister Mukul Roy indicating that there could have been a blast.
