Supreme Court upholds validity of Right to Education Act


Supreme Court upheld constitutional validity of RTE Act. The Act makes it mandatory for private as well as Government schools to reserve 25% seats free for students from economical and social weaker section of the society. The court however, made it clear that the 25% quota would not be applicable to unaided minority institutions.
Accreditation of the schools that will not follow this rule will be cancelled.

23 accused 23 acquitted in ode massacre , Anand


A special court of Anand has convicted 23 of the 47 people accused in the case; 23 have been acquitted in the ode massacre which took place followed by Godhra riots. A mob killed 23 Muslims, including three children, in the Ode village of Gujarat’s Anand district in 2002. Sentence will be announced on April 12.

The Ode massacre was one among the nine post-Godhra riot cases that was investigated by the Special Investigating Team (SIT) appointed by the Supreme Court.

There were 158 witnesses in the case, 35 turned hostile; more than 150 evidences were produced in the court against accused.

Couples react to the Delhi High Court Judgement over Divorce, Ahmedabad


On 24th March Delhi High Court Judgement gave verdict that Wilful denial of sex, including that on the first night after wedding, by either of the spouse amounts to cruelty and can be a ground for divorce.

This Judgement has sparked off debate amongst people. Some are in favor of the whereas some other are against it as they say that only physical relationship should not be made ground for marriage.
