Rustam-e-Hind and Bollywood’s first action hero, Dara Singh succumbed to his illness of 12th July, 2012. Dara Singh is best known for his legendary role as Hanuman in the television series ‘Ramayan’.
The 84-year-old was hospitalised last Saturday after he complained of chest pain and uneasiness. With little chance of recovery and keeping with his family’s wishes, Singh was shifted to his residence on Wednesday. The last rites were performed on Thursday afternoon.
Apart from Bollywood, politicians also mourned at the loss of the former wrestler, actor a well as lawmaker.
Narendra Modi tweeted – “From the ring to screen, he won the hearts of generations! Our heartfelt tributes to Rustam-e-Hind Dara Singh. May his soul rest in peace”.

Film Maker Mahesh Bhatt, actor Bipasha Basu, Abhishek Bachchan and many other celebrities mourned the demise of strongman Dara Singh. Thousands of fans, friends and family members followed Singh’s body in a procession to his cremation Thursday afternoon.
