Former union minister Kashiram Rana dies

Former Union Textile Minister in NDA government, Kashiram Rana, 76, passed away today early in the morning after severe chest pain in Ahmedabad.
Kashiram Rana will be cremated in Surat on Friday evening.
Rana was a senior BJP leader in Gujarat and was among the four pioneers of Gujarat BJP who made the party stronger in state.
Rana recently joined Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) as founder member and was made vice president of the party. Rana was busy in campaigning for the party and was incharge of party’s affairs in south Gujarat.

A gynecologist who was always more keen on politics than on her medical practice, Maya Kodnani’s fall from being a poster girl for the RSS in the state after being implicated in the 2002 Naroda Patiya massacre has been rapid and finally ended in tears on Wednesday.’

She won the 2002 elections that followed the brutal riots by a thumping majority and by 2007 had been elevated to MoS for women and child development.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has threatened to disrupt Sur-Kshetra, a music show in which eight vocalists from Pakistan and an equal number of Indian singers are scheduled to participate.
Chief of the Chitrapat Karmachari Sena, Ameya Khopkar said “Pakistan has been inflicting injuries on India by plotting terrorist attacks. There is no need to undertake such a show on TV. If the show goes on air, we will deal with the situation in a manner befitting the MNS”.
Filmmaker Boney Kapoor, a board director of channel which is producing the show, said: “That is not for me to decide. I will have a meeting with the board members and then we will take a stand on it.”


Gujarat riots: Maya Kodnani, Babu Bajrangi gets life term in Naroda Patiya case

A special court on Friday pronounced the quantum of punishment for 32 convicts in the 2002 post-Godhra Naroda Patiya riots case in Ahmedabad. BJP’s senior MLA Maya Kodnani awarded 18 years of imprisonment while Babu Bajrangi got life imprisonment till death by the special trial court in Naroda Patiya massacre case of 2002 riots.

BJP MLA and former minister in the Narendra Modi government Maya Kodnani and Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi are among the 32 people convicted by a special court in the Naroda Patiya riots case on Wednesday, in which, 97 people belonging to the minority community were killed.

Special court judge Jyotsana Yagnik convicted them on charges of conspiracy and murder in the case.

Former Gujarat minister Kodnani and Bajrangi have been convicted under sections 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, amongst others. On Wednesday, during the arguments on the quantum of sentence, lawyers of Kodnani and other convicts had sought leniency from the court.

The Naroda Patiya massacre is the largest single case of mass murder during the 2002 Gujarat riots that broke out following the Sabarmati Express train carnage near Godhra station.

Jamnagar :IAF chopper collide near school, kids had near escape

On Thursday afternoon two IAF choppers collided mid air near Air Force Base in Jamnagar which killed nine personnel of the Indian Air Force and one sustained critical injuries. The two choppers were of MI-17 and were training exercise.

A school was situated was situated few feet away from the spot where choppers collided and crashed near Sarmat village. If the chopper had fallen on the school roof around 40 school children would have lost their lives, it was a near escape. When the chopper crashed it loud noise was produced, everybody thought that some bomb might have exploded.
